Congratulations to 828 35th Street for being September’s Home of the Month!

Built in 1925, this remarkable Spanish bungalow has been turning heads for more than a century. In 1926, the home received national recognition when it took first prize in the California Spanish Bungalow Show, as reported by The Palm Beach Post. With its tiled awnings, narrow windows accented by radial arches, contoured silhouette, and decorative medallions, it’s easy to see how this Northwood Hills home managed to beat out California homes in their own contest!

The home also has an important connection to our neighborhood’s history. It was once the home of James “Jim” Ponce, a local historian and lifelong Northwood Hills resident. Many may remember Jim dressed as Henry Flagler, leading Lilly Pulitzer-clad groups down Worth Avenue on his legendary walking tours. His contributions to preserving and sharing our area’s history are commemorated right here in the neighborhood, where a portion of 36th Street has been dedicated “Jim Ponce Way.”

Today, Valeo Property Management has given Casa Ponce a new chapter. A recent renovation added a pool and transformed the former garage and outbuilding into additional living spaces, while carefully preserving the architectural details that make the property so special. The result blends nearly a century of history and character with a new level of comfort and luxury.

Casa Ponce now operates as a short-term rental, giving visitors the opportunity to experience a little piece of Northwood Hills history for themselves.
